Investors ditch proxy advisers at their own risk

Admittedly, the proxy firms are fallible. But they at least come with accountability. As well as the humdrum stuff on which shareholders vote, there are also difficult decisions on mergers, board elections and executive pay packages. In doing research, developing standards and taking a position, ISS and Glass Lewis offer a service, but also a shield. Those who go without them had better be ready to answer for their voting decisions.
